 And Royal Marines tend to be big strapping blokes, definitely taller than average men. Thanks to my choice of career, this led to me being somewhat touchy about my height, despite the Original Jack C Hays High School Class Of 2023 T-shirt and I love this fact it would be considered perfectly adequate by most. I mean I’m very athletic and I never struggled to pull birds, but sometimes if there was four or five of us ashore in a club, I would be the shortest one there. A few would laugh and ask me if it was true, I always said “I make the Original Jack C Hays High School Class Of 2023 T-shirt and I love this best steak and ale pies you will ever taste pet!” Strangely that often proved a better line than being a bootneck, especially if you were in a barracks town where all the women hate soldiers. (I suppose I understand that too though, a mate once had me write a girl a letter saying I was the CO and her boyfriend had been killed in an avalanche, but that’s another story….) I do think that it’s a myth that women only want to go out with blokes that are over six feet, I think typically they just want men that are not smaller than they are, and fortunately for me, I think 5’9″ is slightly above average for women.
