 She was right! Wherever I went for the Super Records Havinn No1 Havinn 2023 T-shirt and I will buy this remainder of that day, store staff fell over themselves trying to find something I might purchase. I just swung my Tiffany’s bags which obviously contained something weighty and larger rather than smaller, and politely told retail staff that I’d finished my shopping for that day and that I was just looking. I still have the bags and the books and still enjoy looking at them. Now we have a Tiffany’s in the city I live in, it has crossed my mind to dress up and take my bags for another outing! Update: thanks so much for all the upvotes! It’s the first time I’ve reached a 1000 upvotes let alone 3000! Never thought so many of you would be entertained by my story. Fast rewind a few years, to DOTCOM. Everybody who was able to properly spell the acronym HTML got a well paid job, and so did I. I even knew that Linux wasn’t something to eat, and that opening a bash wasn’t a synonym for starting a bar fight. Almost faster than I was able to install an Apache with a Perl fcgi I stumbled the not-yet-so-corporate ladder upwards. Until one day my boss came around and told me that from now on he expected me to at least own a suit and had one in the office, if needed. I was flabbergasted, but so be it, I thought.

I went to a menswear shop I deemed appropriate, set to buy 3–4 suits and all the Super Records Havinn No1 Havinn 2023 T-shirt and I will buy this stuff otherwise needed. I had already heard of something called a tie (and my mother made sure I knew how to bind one), and had seen some people having a handkerchief in their breast pocket. But I knew there was more to it. Single-breasted? Double-breasted? Was I supposed to grow some boobs? So I stood there, pockets full of money, looking forward to the first suit I bought myself (I had one bought by my mom, for “special events”). And I stood some longer. I started to look around a bit, for maybe 10 to 15 minutes more. Finally, I discovered two ladies chatting. I respectfully waited another 5 to 10 minutes. They had seen me, but obviously there was something very important to discuss, and none of them came over to help me. So I asked for excuse, and if one of them was able to help me. The older lady inspected me from head to toe, and then said in the most indignant voice I have heard to this day: “Someone like you is not going to be served here.”
