You can be fired for any reason that’s not one protected by law, or be fired for no reason at all. You cannot be fired due to: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, physical handicap, and mental handicap.

However a boss can skirt that protection and simply say it just wasn’t a good fit and fire you. Sadly some are like this. luckily this very law despite mostly protecting business, also allows you to quit for ANY reason as well… or simply no reason at all. Now, if you are NOT an “At will” employee and have a contract with your employer, you should review your specific employment contract to answer that question. Also, if you are unsure if you are a “at will” employee, keep in mind some states don’t use the term at will, they may call it “right to work” but it’s the same concept. You have a “right to work” but your employer has a right to terminate you just as easily. It’s sort of a BS term IMO, designed to hide its true intention: protect businesses, not people.
